At 08.00 this morning I had a pop up on screen saying a windows update had been downloaded and computer needed to be shut down, Now or Later with a timer running.
I selected Now.
On reboot my outlook express was different (2003 instead of 2006)
So I did a system restore to yesterday and got back I hop to normal.
Was this a nasty?

I don't think it was a nasty, Firefox is always doing the same and every time I lose my tabbed pages, it's most annoying :x

Thanks for reply your lordship.

That so and so Mr Microsoft crept in again and did an update without me knowing . Altered my email to microsoft .
Did a right click on internet properties and navigated to my email client.
I shall have to stop automatic updates.

I dont allow auto updates. I got sick to death of changes made I didn't want. I now get it to advise me when they are ready, I then select the updates I want.

If you go to the Control Panel you'll find 'Administrative Tools.' In there you will see something called services. Look at the things that are automatic. One of them will be 'Automatic Updates' and you can right click on it and change it from automatic to manual or even disable it altogether. Anything you see that is under 'Automatic' runs as soon as you start Windows up. Be careful waht you change mind as some of the things are essential for Windows to work.

The other sneaky is when you go to turn the computer off. If there are any updates waiting to be installed (ie pending your agreement to instal them) then when you go ahead and click turn off...unless you read the small print and click another link in the text then the updates will be installed but without you getting the chance to review them. The natural action is to just click Turn Off especially if you are in a hurry. Typically underhanded.

Yes Roger thats what happened to me this week.

I have switched off my automatic updates and requested inform me first
