Why are you a member of UKWorkshop?

I joined because I have a genuine interest in woodwork and had/have many questions about the subject, I also like to help people (if I can).

I would be interested in your reasons for joining.

Baldhead

Where else could I wind up Jacob for free?

Nice to talk to like minded sharpeners....errr I mean woodies. As soon as I mention the workshop to the wife she glazes over. I've always found forums a great source of information, whatever the subject.

Followed a link for a TS200 work station build, lurked a bit and then joined in.

Still check in pretty much every night because there is always something interesting or amusing (sometimes both at once) to read and the more you learn the more you realise how little you know.

Long may it continue.

For the babes and partys! 8) Pete

So I can be charitable and offer an arm to those clearly blind members - no names Pete  Or maybe it's dementure on my part and I've forgotten what babes look like :?

I'd lurked for a while (following a link via the old Screwfix forum) before joining, principally due to this thread - domino-worth-it-or-nae-t35662-120.html - about the Domino; I'd not long bought one so felt I had something to contribute.

There was a thread recently about 'what's the most stupid job you've had'; I didn't contribute, because honestly, I've never had a job that I didn't learn something from, no matter how 'stupid' it may have seemed at the time. Similarly, I've never been a member of a forum where I didn't learn something, and looking back it's amazing how many contributors to my original thread no longer post here, so I'm happy I stayed ;)

Cheers, Pete

The only thing I learned from some of the jobs I had, was that rubbish jobs, however well-paid, were for the short-term. They showed me the need to find a secure occupation with adequate pay, (Providing you cut your cloth properly) and a good pension. I suppose that was a good lesson. 8)

I was curious about the relative advantages/disadvantages of a freehand rounded bevel over the multi-facetted edge I was achieving with my sharpening jig. Or something.

Anyway, I haven't had a satisfactory answer, so I'm still here...

I wanted to be somewhere I could learn practical tips about woodworky subjects I want to get involved in, and hopefully in time contribute anything useful I could. Critical for me always though, is to be somewhere where folk are kind, considerate, and genuinely helpful without any personal agendas. I was outed from lurker status earlier than I would have been because of some tools I'd fancied in For Sale, so I feel a considerable fraud at the moment... a productive workshop is but a very slowly evolving dream whilst I grapple with some ongoing, stressful other issues. But it's a dream which keeps me heading forward - much helped by the thoroughly decent chaps/esses in this place!

Mostly to irritate people. I don't manage it frequently enough for my liking. Slainte.

Really? I look forward to your posts as you're incredibly knowledgeable and I always learn something from what you post.

I joined to ask dumb questions, It's a nice forum really. Good group of folks. I do get a bit annoyed that there's a whole bunch of splinter forums and they're all the same people posting mainly the same stuff.

I was just messing about really when I posted that. Messing about is largely what this General Chat area seems to be used for, so I joined in, something I almost seldom do. Slainte.

Get your nose out of the encyclopedias and let your hair down a bit Richard ..... it won't do you any harm honest

Calling people ploppy pants and abusing the northerners is a jolly good jape at times .....

I originally joined as I was interested in scrolling....with the massive amount of information in the scrolling forum I soon found myself a proud owner of a hegner...unfortunately this was just the start of what was to soon become a wood addiction!! I have now found myself in possession of a table saw, bandsaw, pillar drill, disc and belt sander, bobbin sander, more routers than I know what to do with, router table, plunge saw, compound mitre saw amongst others. Wife thinks I have gone mad and to top it all I have even started venturing to car boot sales looking for old planes and saws!!! Where does this crazy addiction end!!!,

Love every second of it though :D

When I first joined my main hobby was metal detecting and I tried to make a display cabinet. I searched for tips online and I ended up here. I have now pretty much knocked the detecting on the head and for the last 7 months have immersed myself in woodwork

I personally find this forum a huge help, if I have any dumb questions I always get a helpful answer and I learn a huge amount from the very knowledgeable members such as Andy T, bugbear, jacob, Jimi, Toby and so many more.

The standard of the WIP's is amazing and throughly enjoy them all.

I even enjoy the sharpening threads

I have now kitted out my little 8x10 shed with some beautiful old tools and I love evey minute using them.

I just joined to see how long Doctor Bob lasted before he was kicked off again. Seriously though I was a keen hobby woodworker and had read books watched joiners etc and wanted to improve. I stumbled on the site while looking for advice on a project and have stayed since. I have learnt a lot from the members here and after turning it into a business I can now help others too and give something back. I think there is a wealth of information on here and no question is too stupid to ask. I am very happy I joined in the fun all those years ago. does that show my age?

I was bored. Arsenal were losing. The wife was moaning. It was raining. There was no beer in the fridge.

There was a row going on between Roger and Jacob, and I thought, "Hey, that looks fun!" So I signed up.

4 yrs later..... I don't have time to be bored, Arsenal have finally won something, I've shot the wife, the sun is shining, and my son makes great homebrew beer.

And Roger and Jacob are still rowing. Love'em  .

Is a passion for rugby, and a bit of a fondness for beer letting my hair down enough for you?

And we can be rude about southerners and their whining London, Mockney, and Home Counties accents in return you know. Slainte.
