Hey Andrew

Thanks for posting the pics.
Looks like some nice pieces.
The first thing I made on a lathe
That looks exactly like my first project on the lathe and I thought that I had a patient on that design

Keep on cutting.

Travis

Andrew, I think your vivarium is a first on here. I guess there are some complicated eletrics to control heat and humidity.

hI, Folks.
As the ad on T.V. says 'See and learn,, See and learn'. Which I do a great deal of on this site. Thanks to some VERY talented people....Yesssss Philly, you as wellllll!!!!!! (teehee).

I am not that 'up' on things woodworking', so I read a lot of stuff on here which is so useful you can't even shake a stick in it's general direction.
As Gill quite aptly puts it, a lot can be gleaned from the general chit-chat that goes on. I love it & will post whenever I feel I can inject either knowledge...............or humour!!! I hope all goes well, but if I suddenly disappear for a time it's 'cos I am changing servers on Friday & things may go wrong so we might have trouble finding you all again. Just planning for all eventualities you understand. As I say, I post whenever I can in order to feel useful. Cheers Guys n Gals.

Hi all.

As a newbie i would post more often, but after looking on the forum i'm overcome with tool envy and have to go and lie down in a dark workshop for a while. :D

I'm still soaking up most of the information available really, maybe like the majority of new members i'll start to post after a while.

Cheers

Richie.

I think those seasoned regulars to a forum (any forum) sometimes either think 'Why is that newbie asking that question?' or 'I know the answer but it sounds too obvious?' and so end up not posting and the thread just dies. This can deflate the newbie and sometimes put them off posting again. Worse still the regular, 'expert' user can be impatient or worse still sarcastic. I hate this on forums, if the question has been asked politely the the reply should be too!

There is very little of that here. I actually found as a newbie this site has been very welcoming to newbies. I still think I am asking the most rediculous of questions sometimes (and probably am). I also enjoy reading this forum and feel, in the few months I have been a member, I have learned a great deal. More, infact, than from the magazines I have bought in the same period of time.

Forums can tend to be 'Cliquey' and hard to 'Break Into'. A certain amount of this is unavoidable. But the regular members and mods here are always very welcoming to newcomers and patient with their questions.

In Short. Those regulars can give themselves a pat on the back ;)

Newbies should post. You can learn from them. They haven't learned the "religion" yet and can come up with some good ideas. My son still learns me a thing or two.

Besides I think the let us "Muricans" on here for the Humor

Well said, Slim. There's seldom a thread I don't learn something from, I find. Otherwise I'd probably go off and find a life - I hear they're terribly useful.

Cheers, Alf

P.S. Actually we let you on for the humour...

I used to sit at the back of the class at school, waiting for someone else to ask the questions, because I didn't want to look like an *****.

It wasn't until I went to collage that I started asking questions, because I wanted to know the answers, and I thought that there might be someone else in class who felt like a fool and to scared to ask for themselves. If I didn't ask, I may never of known the answers.

It's the same here, sometimes I feel daft, but I need to know the answer. Not only do I receive answers, but I receive reassurance as well from a bl**** good crowd.

IF YOU WANT TO KNOW SOMETHING, ASK.

I hope this is of some help.

ATB Gary.
