Actually, Rob, it was worthwhile seeing the Clifton stand today, because it helped confirm that my old nameless cheapie from 30 years ago, a number 4-1/2, is actually a pretty decent bit of kit. The Clifton chap demonstrated planing the end grain of a bit of American red oak, and my old thing does that every bit as well as his £200 plane.

No, I've held out for years, and until I finally find out what my dad left me in his will in terms of hand-tools I won't even think about investing in any more ironmongery.
