I have installed a 100mm solid pipe ducting system with a dual motor extractor and need to buy some flexible hoses for fixed and mobile machines.
For 100mm fixed machines I had some grey spiral flexible pipe with the kit so that was a no-brainer.

For 63mm fixed machines I have some 63mm reducers and need to buy the flexible pipe.

I also have a bag of second hand flip top waste gates that have 63mm cuff in and a 50mm socket out which I think may be perfect for mobile tools like routers with the appropriate reducer from 50mm to the tool and a short length of 50mm solid pipe to fit in the waste gate.

I intend to dot a couple of these above where I use these machines so there is less of that annoying pipe drag across bench edges.

So before I buy some 63 and 50mm PU spiral flexible ducting hoses, is there a standard used in workshops other than this that is better suited?

The one you link to there looks a very good price but you do need to make sure the thread direction on the fitting and the spiral hose are the same or they get very difficult to fix together.

Thanks Graham, I didn't think of that, having said that I don't think any of my fittings are threaded, I could be wrong, I shall check tomorrow.

I do wish manufacturers would standardise on a couple of dust port outlet sizes and shapes and locking mechanisms for tools, it seems they don't share a standard, but may share a random number generator. I have a couple of step down adaptors but IMO its a bodge as they sometimes come loose when the pipe rubs on the edge of teh bench half way through the job, then the duct tape appears!
Cheers

Very slightly off-topic, but today I bought a shopvac from Lidl for 24.99. No power take-off, which I didn't realise, I took it for granted that it would have. Not sure whether to take it back or not. Otherwise it looks handy for power tools and the occasional flood.
I intend to build a Thein separator system. I can feel a Youtube Short coming on...

I don’t know anything about solid pipe extraction systems as I have a hobby vacuum extractor from Axi, the

http://www.axminster.co.uk/axminster-ho ... -extractor

To couple this up to the 63 mm port on my Axi bandsaw, I used this reducer and PVC pipe

http://www.axminster.co.uk/100mm-to-63m ... action-kit

http://www.axminster.co.uk/clear-lightw ... ction-hose

the hose is available in two lengths 1 m and 2.5 m. I also needed a couple of jubilee clips.

Mine is mostly form Axi too, this extractor and this pipe kit I also use the same 100mm to 63mm reducers.

What I have managed to get from a defunct factory is some flip top blast gates, you can see them on my RAS table here. I'm swapping this RAS and table out soon and will have extraction on the blade guard too.

The blast gates are 63 spigot in and 50mm socket out an I have two 50mm to 38mm adaptors that I obtained today. I'm building a partition wall in the workshop to make a small cosier area for the winter that I can heat and I shall put 100mm solid pipe along the back wall and reduce down to 63mm for a couple of these flip top blast gates that will stick through the wall so just the socket is showing above the bench.

No point ordering any pipe just yet, the gas board have closed our road for an undetermined amount of time and couriers don't know the back way.

I've just been looking at the mobile power tools I use that need extraction so I can make sure I have all the right fitting. All the fixed ones have standard 100mm or 63mm connections except the trend routing table with 58mm ID (inside diameter) and 70mm OD (outside diameter).

Proxxon scroll saw (not that mobile but not permanently installed) 34mm ID, 38mm OD
1/4" trend router 35.5mm ID 40mm OD,
1/2" dewalt router 34.4mm ID, 40mm OD
Metabo jigsaw 23.7mm ID, 27mm OD
Bosch circular saw 24mm ID only
Bosch planer 35.3mm ID 40mm OD
Metabo RO sander 35mm ID 42mm OD

So only bit of commonality is 40mm OD for the 2 routers and the planer however the dewalt router has a hose guide on the top of the router with a diameter of 36.7mm so they must have designed this to use the internal diameter. There's a few around 35mm ID but pipe tends to be sold using ID and the OD is rarely specified so a length of 35mm OD tube would be needed to connect them.

Black pond pipe comes in these internal diameters, not sure if the 38mm and 40mm are one and the same as they equate to 1-1/2" but this supplier made a distinction.

0.5 inch (12mm)
0.75 inch (20mm)
1 inch (25mm)
1.25 inch (32mm)
1.5 inch (38mm)
1.5 inch (40mm)
2 inch (50mm)

Anyway, I think I have a way forward now to sort this out, sorry to bore you with this, but a) it gets on my nerves, b) if its on this site I can quickly look up the sizes if I find an adaptor or pipe that looks useful :D

Nederman make some useful adaptors, see page 85, but finding a retailer is proving a bit difficult
