I am due to receive my DD kit later this week.

1/2 horse motor (I'll bet it's the half that has to be fed :? ?) control box and remote. It's for me Record CL1 so the motor had to be an imperial size.

The controller is the advanced model so I'll let you know how it all nails together.. I'll also confirm some of the prices when I see the invoice.

hi miles_hot
hope this helps a little
my newton tessla package was a motor pre-wired
the inverter mounted in a box
and a control plate to fit in the original switch position.

i removed the old motor
my dad had a Pulley Remover so he removed the pulley and fitted it to the new motor - straight fit no boring out necessary.
refitted the motor - exact fitting plate/foot on the motor.
mounted the inverter box on the wall.
wired in the motor. they gave me a very clear drawing and there was only 3 cables to connect and they were marked up for me .
fitted the speed controller.
i had already stripped out the safety switches on the doors and the foot stop - but i could have left them on and had them wired in with 1 cable i found out later.

the whole refit only took 2 hours and the hardest part being refitting the bolts on the motor (whichever package you go for you will have to do this ) - small area to work in and me having sausage fingers  and im not the fastest of workers with these things.

all in all i was very pleased with my dealings with newton tessla .

good luck with whatever you go for.

LOL - I love this place :) On one hand I've got OldWood giving a cautionary tale and then Paul-C describes exactly what I was hoping for :) :)

Ah well I'll be placing an order, probably with TN, as soon as the final ricing comes through (unless one of the other one companies sorts their reply out) and I'll have lots of interesting experiences to report :)

To keep the thread count down I'll post updates on this thread unless people think it should be a new thread...

I think that it sounds like you've had consistently good communications with Newton Tessla, therefore I'd go for them even if they're not the cheapest, the first hiccup you get their communication skills will immediately prove invaluable

Hi Miles
Thanks for taking on-board the 'cautionary tale' !! I'm very much a DIY person - I've electronic. electrical and mechanical engineering skills so tackle these projects as projects that will inexpensively give me the end result I want - so time isn't quite so important.

One thing I didn't mention in the 'cautionary tale' is that it is essential that you have control of the lathe at your finger tips. The SG inverter I installed is mounted in a wall mounted box with a speed controller and on/off switch. There was no power indicator and you could not see the inverter display - it also meant that the lathe had to be positioned in the club room close to the wall so that the controls could be accessed.

I would like to think that a Graduate committed kit would supply a control box to be attached to the lathe at hand height. I would also like to think that a suitable emergency switch and door interlocks are provided.

All the best and we'll look forwarded to how you get on. Please come back if there are any problems and we'll see if we can sort them out at long-range.

Rob
