I am getting close to having to apply some finish to a piece i'm doing.

I'll be using boiled linseed oil and wondered where I should source some good quality cloths from?

100% lint free cotton is always best.

Ian

I use the same. Although T-Shirts does sound like a good idea. Lint Free works out very expensive after a while!

old shirts for me too.

Whenever I apply oil finish I have to soak a new bit of cloth and I find that very wasteful. So I keep the used cloth in a small air tight jar.

I keep a cloth in my wax too.

Its well documented that you have to lay them out somewhere to air and dry before disposing of them, rather than screwing them up in a corner, as they can self combust, but in an air tight jar seems to be fine.

Hi all,

I find that applying oil, and wax too for that matter, works well with a Nyweb pad (also available as Webrax and Mirlon among others) these are very fine abrasive pads (unsure exactly but 1000grit +) that look a bit like pan scourers. They can be cut up and washed out and re-used!

Give it a go!

Richard

Apply with paint brush and wipe off with kitchen roll.
Sometimes apply with paint brush and rub over with 2500 grit wet & dry before wiping

I like the t-shirts idea - I'll "borrow" some from the missus.

She will not like wearing them after you have used them  .
