Apologies for the probably random and confusuing question, but...

I have recently bought some wooden garden furniture from Homebase, and I want to make a small (folding) table to go with it.

The table I bought is a fold-up, and the legs clip on to the underside by way of 2 plastic clips that pinch over a cross rail of dowel. To collapse the table, you unhook the dowel from the clips, and the legs fold flat.

Again, apologies for the vague description, but does anyone have any idea what such clips are called, and where I can get some? It seems to be the easiest way of going about it...

Make some from wood, its just an L shaped piece screwed to the bottom of the table usually.

I think I know the style you mean - we have a camping table with clips like that. You could perhaps use some plastic pipe clips - this sort of thing -

or a Terry clip:
