Hi

Anyone know where to buy these cheaply, only need one, reconditioned would be OK if in good nick

This is the sort of thing, needs to have a lid and the circular locking clip

http://www.fdlonline.co.uk/index.php?ma ... iuuqjsfue5

The 30 litre one down the page would be ideal, Need about 12 inch or slightly greater diameter and about 15 or more inches tall.
The net is awash with 205 litre jobbies, but this size harder to find, expensive or must be bought in muliples (as in the link).

Cheers

Have you any firms near you that use fibre glass? Because lots of the stuff ie resins etc come in that type of drum, and usually they just get dumped! I use to work for Hardy - Marine and we had loads of them and they all ended up in the skip.

Hi

I'm not sure to be honest. Would they be clean on the inside if thats what they were used for?
I know they are used for allsorts from food to poisonous chemicals.

Mark, silly question but what are you planning to use it for, the reason for asking is that a colleague of mine has a metal manufacturing business and the welding wire for the robot welders come in large plastic drums and also large very thick board drums and when they are empty they are just thrown away and you would be welcome to some.

Kind offer, thanks but I need metal, need to be able to join more metal to it.

I have seen those on ebay. They are a little bit small I think, but am awaiting a reply to see if they have any slightly bigger. It is the dimentions I am more interested in, about 12 inches diameter (or slightly more), height less inportant but at least a foot.

They are out there as I've seen them, just not at a price I'm willing to pay. (I'd pay the £16 in my original link but I only want one). The massive 205 litre containers I've see priced at everything from £10 to about £140  Now that's a price range.

Uncured polyester resin is very easily removed. The waste would be minimal as I can't see them binning unused resin for a laugh.

Thanks, what does the polyester resin need cleaning off with? Sorry, never used it so no idea. There are a couple of marinas near me on the Thames I could try, assume they might use fibreglass.

Acetone and you wouldn't need much of it & defintely not something to do inside the house!

As the drum would only have uncured (i.e. no hardener mixed in), mechanical means would get almost all out, assuming they've left some in (scrape out with a 2x2 or similar), and then a wipedown with acetone should remove the last bits.

Also some garages have grease delivered in drums like that!

Find yourself a local Audi\VW specialist (non-Dealer). They'll have the Audi\VW oils supplied to them in those sorts of drums.
