Without getting into the merits of individual parties has anyone yet seen a manifesto from any of them?

I could be wrong but I think I remember a time when manifesto's were published at least a month before an election - maybe longer - which gave you time to read, digest, and question the contents, even more important to me at the moment (and I guess many others) when I am thinking of changing my allegiances, based mainly on past performance, but I guess the expenses scandals were the last straw.

I have looked at all the alternatives on the web, and generally you can find a lot of information but i'm old fashioned I guess and like to look at them against each other (and I put a little more trust in paper). Also SWMBO is showing an interest, and I'd like to debate the pro's and con's of each party with her - again made more difficult by the lack of a coherent document from each party.

Maybe they've realised there's no point publishing what amounts of a load of lies anyhow?

If they published a list of what they were REALLY going to do if they got elected then nobody would vote for them.

I'd normally make some sarcastic comment at this point about cyncism, but I got nothing!

Dunno, do you have to send off for them nowadays? Cannot remember the last time we got one through the letterbox. What we do get is a weeks worth of flyers and 'vote for me' bits of paper that tell you absolutely nothing about either a candidate or what he stands for, then nothing for 4 years until for 1 week the same old flyers again! Apparently my local councillor lives in my town and that is his big 'voting point'. The fact nobody down our road has ever seen him, heard him or knows him is besides the point! There are no 'hustings' or meetings that I have been made aware of so its like asking me to pick the grand national winner - might as well stick a pin in a list as I have nothing to differentiate between them all other than national policies, which they assure us do not reflect local councillors who care deeply about local issues.....

thats now known as "an expenses claim" :D

So you have the lawyers over there running the show huh?Same B.S. here, lie all day long then blame the other guy for holding your show up....
And you wonder what guns are for??
Well its time to vote some new people into office, how bad could they make it?? Its been trashed already....

In the absence of anything to read I'm adopting a policy of who looks cleanest.

Current suggestions are that at the next general election 50% of labour politicians will be deselected. 25% of Conservatives will be deselected. Haven't got the figures for the others yet but it certainly won't be those two.

So I'll take a long hard look at the Independents.
