Wife...sexy thing she is.....just back from spec savers.
TWO pairs of glasses lenses, bifocal trendy design..£150
Same deal 3,1/2 years ago.....£250....

New Cars down £7000 plus according to todays press.

Houses being given away free.....prices dropped so much
etc etc..

So, why aren't woodworking machines...and I mean, PT, BIG double 2foot belt roller sanders, dropping at the same rate?????

The only thing they have in common are with MARKS & SPENCERS underpants, which, like heavy WW machinery have gone up in price.

Mike..
Sorry, for anyone who is interested, underpants up from £3 .50 for a pack of 3 to £4.50 pack of three..!!!

I share your pain, but with the pound down in the gutter I suspect there are further price increases in the pipe line for imported tools and machinery.

Let's start an industrial revolution....
get rid of foreign imports
Make the things in the North of England..
build factories..
start using coal powered steam engines......
sod the global warming........

We can bring down WW machinery prices.......

( This broadcast was on behalf of, THE WOOD WORKING AT HOME PARTY')

I was in axminster today and asked about the new catalogue prices. The chap in there said they buy everything in dollars, so I asume there will be a bit of a price hike next month.

So is it time to panic buy??????????????

and negotiate

fair enough if you are buying just one machine you should probably expect to pay list , but if you are fitting out the workshop and buying for example, a PT, a bandsaw, a router, and a dust extractor then dont be afraid to ask what they'll give you for buying that much in one swell foop

remember import prices may be higher , but customer interest is down due to the credit crunch - ergo if they want some serious buisness then they ought to give you a discount.

If they are using dollars hang on for a little, currency is dropping like cars....sales here are flat, should remain so till fall, buy used is my advice, more people out of work and they are selling their tools faster then you can count to 10.

Hmmmm... Let's see:

Specs - a reluctant purchase where consumers will seek out value.

Woodworking machinery - salivating consumers generally giving "value" machines a wide berth.

It's like a lot of things... If you're serious about photography, for example, don't expect to find the must have lens at anything other than top dollar.

Hi All

Just like to add a little tale re prices.

I've been looking for my first Lathe (hopefully it will be here on Tuesday) having a low budget I was trying to get the best I could for the cheapest, so decided in the end on a Clarke CWL12D and was considering between popping into Machine Mart and picking it up for £124.98 or waiting and have it delivered from Chronos for £111.

So yesterday popped into the Machine Mart web site and found the lathe and nenearlyainted Click Here Apparently placing an imaging saying new costs a whopping £105 more

I was in disbelief
Mark..............

The new catalogue claims that this is "new", it cetainly wasn't in the old catalogue. The 20RV has only (only?) gone up by £41 and the CWL 1000 by £3.50 !

Don't pay inflated new prices!

Keep an eye on auction catalogues for second hand machinery from medium sized businesses folding through lack of affordable credit.

Bob

eg http://www.peacockauction.co.uk/pages/f ... oodworking

Do NOT post links like that  It might look like an innocuous auction of a few pieces of woodworking machinery but scroll down the page and you find this:

http://data.bidmaster.co.uk/whpeacock1/ ... S&status=C

All from one collector apparently. Strewth! How many planes does a man need? And it's only down the road from me.

I will resist.

Andrew

Well done Andrew for showing such admirable resolve.

You have passed the slope test and are clearly on the level!!

Bob

You guys all miss the point!

UNDERPANTS HAVE INCREASED IN PRICE AT M&S .....

it's the skids that matter......

They are.

I spoke with a couple of second-hand woodworking machinery dealers this week and prices are plummeting due to the huge number of machines flooding onto the market as firms go bust.

This is where the bargains are. New machinery isn't going to fall in price as manufacturers need to maximise profit per machine sold as overall volumes drop.

Cheers
Dan

In the 2007 spring/summer catalogue the CWL12D cost
£89.98/£105.73. I have the exact same lathe and it is not
NEW :?
P.S. I got mine for £65 instore as it was a returned model. :D
Whoever bought it had took it back and damaged the box. :D
