TT,

I've got the Axi Hobby series model and am very pleased with it. I find it accurate and robust enough and easy to use.

I think I messed up, I'm after a router, they can do the same as a morticer as well as profiles? I'm seriously stupid when it comes to power tools I can use a drill that's about it.

So what's the difference. Pros and cons?

Sorry to keep on about power tools :s

Even though it probably doesn't matter now...

I picked up one of those powercraft ones from aldi about 3-4 years back.
It cost me around €120 and then €20 for the morticer bits.
for someone who doesn't need to use one on a fulltime/daily bases this purchase was perfect, so far I have used it to build a few tables, a pair of storm proof shutters using standard door construction and a few doors ( with the sub table removed to give me extra clearance height )

It doesn't work well with huge chisels but a 10mm chisel is all you need because you can turn the piece of timber around and mortice it in two passes.

just an update i brought a:
charnwood chisel morticer model:W308
with 3 chisels: 1/4 1/2 and 3/8 in boxes and new on is open
and a pillar dill attachment
all the bits and bobs needed
and manual ect
£30

all i need now is a small bandsaw and a tormek.

cheers

Why a Tormek? There are plenty of other cheaper ways to sharpen

Indeed - and for fast "repair" of knackered old edges a more conventional (and cheaper) grinder is much faster.

I think the subtext here is that Toby will find a Tormek with every extra jig and stone option, for £30 or so, because he does!
If he just gets a B&Q grinder for a fiver, none of us will be impressed. ;-)

Umm to answer your question.
I've used one and they are very good,
I could buy a cheaper brand but if I buy a tormek it will be with me forever hopefully,
What would you suggest,

I prefer older plane with knackered irons and sorting them by hand isn't any fun, not with the system I use,
Also I want a grinder that can sort other tools with jiggs,

No debate of jiggs please ;)

Tools include carving, turning, irons, chisels, axes, draw knifes ect,

So maby the sorby pro edge (Xmas present)

That's fair enough. I got the wrong impression that you were just starting out but if you've got all those edges to sharpen then it makes sense. If it was just the odd chisel or plane iron then scarysharp works very well.

That's alright, I am rather new but I like todo a bit of everything, "jack of all" I've used the scary sharp and agree it is very good but we all har out own ways of sharpening.

I just need something that will accommodate all my edge needs,
Still haven't decided, the tormek and the sorby pro edge are great but cost a loads so can only get one. If I got te tormek it would be the t3,

Cheers

Just to point out to everyone that I haven't abandoned my trusty Worksharp. Just that when I was round at Peter Sefton's Aladdin's Cave I succumbed to buying a ScarySharp kit to try out.
