either cedar or you could use douglas, that will go the same colour.....cheaper too.

It doesn't take very long given enough bright sun (and that has the look of a hot clime) - a year or two, not a decade. No reason there should be any associated damage, it's just bleaching not decay (well, not decay as in rot, the cell structure of the outer layer is broken down by the UV).
 
Cedar would be more durable obviously, best of the softwoods from that POV.
