To be honest the description says “ unbranded “ which I personally take as most likely imported from overseas. That said it looks ok but if you search the usual import companies- Ali express- bangood etc you may well find the same or similar for less £££ also worth noting is the seller does not accept returns ..

I have a drill press that I don't use now it is a William Ridgeway you can use it as a morticer as well as a drill if your interested let me know and I will sort it out of the shed and take an image for you.

Edit: name change.

I guess you have noted it acts like a G-clamp so the base goes under the piece to be drilled.

Also, you have to lift the handle to make the drill go into the work, which could be a little counter-intuitive.

It does not say the stroke of the device, nor the overall length of the tube.

The bit shown in the drill in the picture is quite non-standard - it is a blacksmith's drill but a relatively short one

It is a cast iron machine so weighs in around 25 to 30kg it is 650mm x 40mm dia post, the base is 250mm x 250mm it has the timber hold down and the mortice holder and chisel std 43mm drill fixing all you would need is a motor or drill.

Here it is will need a good clean it has a fine covering of rust as it has been sitting in the shed for some years but will clean off easy. (given some warm weather I would get out there and clean it up some what myself)
I would be looking for £80 collected or plus delivery ( I guess our little posty girl would not pick it up) If your interested pm me.

Seen this drill press on eBay that would be great for a job I regularly do.

Price is OK, but always like to look around for similar / used items

Anyone know what make this is?

Stamped as SCLC but I can’t find anything online

I hope that you understand that this is for in situ drilling of materials where its favourable to have a bit more force/control than freehand.
Not really for bench work if that was your aim.
Cheers, Andy

Are you addressing this to original poster in the thread, who states "would be great for a job I regularly do", which implies he is aware of exactly how it is configured?

Or are you addressing this to everyone else who has replied and totally misunderstood the nature of the eBay listing and are thus proposing totally unsuitable and completely irrelevant alternatives?

Spot on - this is for an in situ job i do once a month - drilling 50+ 5mm holes in 4mm thick box section.

Not the biggest job in the world, buy I would love to make it a little easier.

Good point about having to raise the arm to lower the drill - counterintuitive but I suspect id get the hang of it after the first few dozen holes!

thanks for the offer Phill05, though im not looking for a bench mounted press.

Ill keep searching online, but havent found anything remotly similar - only bench mounted presses.

Yes, bit of both I suppose now you put it that way, mind you that Ridgeway is a wonderful bit of kit and a close relation to the old bomb proof ARCOY drill stands but still probably a bit heavy for this situation.

If you are drilling sideways and up above your head then I suspect the pull on the lever might be a bonus.
You could possibly buy one of the cheaper types (car boot?) to try by cutting the base or fitting a different one of steel or wood. £84 is a big ask from what I'm seeing.
I used to have the old Black and Decker and another which would now be useful for on site plug cutting but need a B&D drill.
Cheers, Andy

Maybe look for a cheap mag drill?

I rather doubt that this is Draper, I have a Draper bench top mortice machine and it is very clearly marked as Draper.
My advice would be to buy and try it, sell it on if it doesn't help the job! Drilling 5mm holes in steel with good drill bits should not stress the tool greatly.

Be aware that the clamp goes around the drill torque setting adjuster on some drills, it is also not compatible with some drills that have large keyless chucks, just a heads up.
