What do you call them thingies?

Hi All,

I'm trying to source some screws type thingies, but I don't even know what they're called!! (homer)
They screw into a newel post (this end looks a bit like a self tapper) and the other end goes into a banister and takes a bolt. Firstly what are they called and secondly if anyone could tell me where I can order some online I'd be very grateful ?

I have always known them as stud screws http://www.allfix.co.uk/Products/Stud-Screws I got some from B&Q the other week.

Dowel screw is another name, in case that helps.

Thanks everyone. I'll try googling them all and see what I come up with, but that link to Allfix was a good one - they seem very cheap there!

Mister fish, I appreciate your help, but look at jpt's link to allfix. The M8 X 75MM screws at Scresfix are 2.93 each and you can buy 100 at Allfix for 4.05!! I know the quality must but different, but that's a lot of difference in price. The next time I order something from Screwfix I'll buy one of their screws to compare them with Allfix's.
