I've seen in a few posts people saying they were able to get good deals/dsicounts from Axminster when purchasing an expensive bit of machinery. Personally, I always thought they only discounted the discontinued/returns stuff, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

I'm looking to pick up a bandsaw and a tablesaw at some point (still saving), and was going to see what kind of discount they would give me if I bought them togeather.

So that I have something to compare it to. Can I ask what kind of discount you got (if any)?

Was umming and ahhring about a morticer on Friday (ATM25) and the bloke threw in a £70 12mm chisel as a sweetener. So no discout as such, but maybe 8% worth of goods extra.

This is a good strategy with any store. You get the value of the extra, but they only loose the wholesale value, rather than a larger chunk of revenue.

I think some woodturning clubs negotiate discounts for their members from Axi, so this may be a route to look at. Membership fees are pretty trivial too.

I ordered the basic 10in table saw recently. Asked for discount several times, but was told there was no chance. This was the £750 odd unit, bare of sliding table and extensions.

I told them I would be watching the web site for reductions in price or special offers, and would be hopping mad if I saw any, ..fat lot of good it will do me though.

Would be interested in anyone else received discounts.

At the time I spent another £150 odd with them, to buy the mobile base, some calipers and something else I can,t remember. They gave me 10 percent on the wheels only.

I was pretty lucky in terms of timing. I had been waiting (and saving) for a very long time until I moved to a house with a double garage so I could finally set up a decent workshop, so I had a long list of things I was going to buy/order at the same time from Axminster. As I was keeping an eye out for deals on a couple of the bigger stuff I found that they were going to open a new store in Cardiff, so I ended up going on the first day it opened and they offered 10% off everything in store (apart from power tools)!! So to cut a long story short I managed to get a total of around 15% off everything and also had a few things thrown in like an upgraded bandsaw blade, upgraded PT knives and a few hand tools. They also price matched on like for like things. So the more you buy the more likely you could get a discount and extra things thrown in :)

They will price match but need to be pushed. They will throw in freebies too on larger orders, especially if you build up a relationship. The most discount I have got on machinery not in a sale or special offer is 5%.
