The grain in the wood is absolutely stunning.

Looks like Brazilian Rosewood to me, although I could be wrong.

I'd be nervous of the dimensional stability of burr wood, but I'd trust S&S's judgement.

The original plane - not ugly by any means, but I don't care for the finish. It looks like poly varnish!

The shape is superb.

No your not alone, I just cant see any practicality in any of this type of infill plane. Now Karl Hotley makes more than one or two but this is the only one I drool over

Let's face it, the reason was to slowly persuade the old timers to give up their wooden planes and go over the 'them new fangled Iron planes'.
They always remind me of them bloody awful clogs we had to wear during WW2.
Mind you, cutting and polishing that wood must have been a nightmare!

Konrad Sauers planes blow me away! That plane is particularly wonderful. I can definitely see why they wouldn't be to everyones tastes though.

I think I would be scared to use it if I could afford it. I'd probably just build it a little bed and sing to it softly.

Konrad's planes definately count as tool porn in my book.

Having had quite a lengthy chat with him at the Axminster show a few years ago, I can also vouch that not only is he one of the most acomplished plane makers on the planet, he is also one of the nicest guys on the planet.

During our lengthy chat, Konrad had no qualms about letting people use his masterpieces on some of the hardest and gnarliest rock maple I've ever seen; needless to say that the surface was glass smooth and just shimmered - they're that good!!!!!:shock: :shock:

Once my little ones have gone through their formal education, I'll be straight on the blower to Konrad - unfortunately that's not going to happen for a good while as my eldest is only 2, and the youngest is 4 months old

(please note that I stated "one of the most accomplished plane makers" to avoid any major disputes - there are a lot of really good guys out there. In my book however, Konrad is up there with Karl Holtey as the best)

Waka's thread is what's called a PSUT (Preparatory Softening Up Thread) so that when the blow finally falls later on this summer :wink: we're not all going to want to go and play hop-scotch on the M25...beware of smokescreens!
