OK , It was to far for me Leadbury

But who went to the Pugh auction

What did you get ????

and blinding deals , just to make me feel bad :?

Hi Allen,

Was a bit packed there today because of the rain, a lot of timber which I am not the best judge of but people seemed happy with the quality/prices. The walnut and ash all looked good to me but as I said, not my thing.

Tools wise I bought a fair bit but some of the not so good stuff made silly money.
There were a pair of superb tool boxes complete with original tools which went through the roof, over a grand for the two and the guy was jump bidding a £100 at a time to blow everyone away! It certainly worked!
A lot of 'magpie bait', stuff really polished up to catch the eye, made good money.

Interestingly there were several women there buying mainly old wooden planes and stuff that I suppose you could put on a shelf and display and they would not be denied!

 A complete Triton Workcentre Kit with crap saw but everything else, sliding table, router table, roller stands, bevel fence, no DC made £270 plus commission so £300+. Was in good nick. Sorry!

I bought a nice Preston smoother and a stunning Norris shoulder plane but not cheap!
Somehow I also ended up with a set of kitchen scales! Don't ask me how!

Had a good day out while SWMBO went shopping in Birmingham with her niece.

Bumped into Radicalwood and Mudman but no sign of Roger Sinden.

Regards,
Martin

Cheers, Alf

Was thinking of going, but decided to go to john boddy's instead, as it's only half the distance (76 miles). Ended up getting some nice black walnut, cherry, plane, elm and cedar.

Swmbo was in charge of the buying, as she has taken it upon herself to be my chief designer and workshop helper (sanding lady).
She made good choices though, with some pokes int he right direction

Matt.

Yep, had a good day.
Spent a bit more on wood than I intended to but there you go. :?
Bought a slab of walnut. Got a bit confused and thought I was bidding on the next one which was a lot nicer but ended up with a scabby one with a nasty oil stain and a load of shakes. Teaches me to be more careful in future. But, will make some nice boxes for the missus and kids so happy with it.
Had some nice yew planks, these are also destined to become boxes and maybe some pens.
Was primarily there for some wod to build son #1 a loft bed and bought some ash for this. Had what I think was a good price but it doesn't sem to be as dry as I hoped so luckily I also managed to get a load of lengths of oak which is very nice, straight and dry and just right for what I want.
Was also happy to get some big chunks of yew which Radicalwood threatened to mug me for  but I got them to the car without incident. These are going to be put aside, probably for a turning project but I may use them for carving.
Also picked up some box for tool handles but think I probably paid over the odds for these.
I purposely kept away from the tools as I could have spent a fortune there and I had a feeling that what I was intersted in would go for a lot more than I was willing to spend. However, I was looking for a space to get my ash out and noticed that a Record M183 dowling jig was on offer so hung on for it and had to bid albeit a bit blind, I got it for £8 so not a bad price. It is actually a Marples jobby and absolutely brand new, even got the label still on it.

Anyway, I enjoyed the day and am quite pleased with my purchases although I now have the problem of just where to put it all.

Wood prices were a lot higher than last year's as there were a lot more people there this time but there were still some bargains to be had.

Was good to meet up with Mahking51 and Radicalwood who are both thorouhly nice chaps.

Wasn't being sexist there Alf  , I actually asked one lady if she was going to use them and she told me they would mostly end up as ornaments.
Cheers,
Martin

had a good day, did not buy too much wood this time cherry 70 x 16 x 3 2 off for £16, turning logs in Silver birch and sycamore £8, and an assortment of offcuts mainly for the beech £11.
Was good to meet back up with Martin and to meet Mudman.
Could have bought a lot more but keeping the cash as expecting a new arrival in a few months. Will give me an excuse to make toys in a few years :) .

Neil
