I'm after some Yew from which I can turn a salad bowl for a good customer of mine. He is after a bowl about 18/20 inches in diameter, reasonably deep (6/8 inches) and preferrably in Burr Yew.

I know it's a big request but would be grateful for any help.

Thanks

Hi Mark,

An excellent source of Yew is from a seller on ebay, they sell regular nice pieces, if you search on Crafts > Woodworking you should find them, in the meantime I'll see if I can go through my history and find their name. I've bought a couple of pieces from them a little while ago and the service/wood was excellent.

I know somebody who got a piece of yew from this supplier and he gave it to me because it was rubbish, and I can confirm it is rubbish but probably swings and roundabouts, if you want a pic i'll do one tomorrow.

Mark, if you can handle green wood for this project it might be worth contacting the 'Friends of Westonbirt'to see if anything that size has found its way to the graveyard. The forestry guys have been taking some large yews out recently.

The ebay seller is 'Saws10'. They currently have a number of yew auctions up at the moment, here are some logs:

Martin - if it was rubbish, you should have sent it back. In my experience they are extremely fair, and their feedback is perfect and if someone isn't happy with a board/log they are usually more than happy to take it back and/or replace.
