Has anyone else spotted the "restored" Wadkin PK in the lastest Tools and Shops edition of Fine Woodworking which I spotted while browsing in Smith's free library? Blue metallic paint and rosewood fence seem somewhat out of character with the down to earth practicality and appeal of vintage Wadkin iron and are not my idea of what constitutes restoration. What do others think?

If it's the one I think it is, it's one of Jack's (tool613) and he's got a thread about it on here somewhere. He's also got a barn full of Leicester's finest, equally restored.

I think it's beautiful, as are all his restorations, and as far as I'm aware it works hard for it's living. Wonderful to see such craftsmanship taking a rusty old wreck and creating an industrial work of art.

Jacks restoration work is probably the best around and once done the machines have to earn there keep. You must of been looking at a dodgy picture because the colour on jacks PK is not metalic, it's very similar to wadkins original colour. Jack is a very accomplished carpenter aswell. I can only dream to get anywhere near his standards

I must admit, it does look beautifully done. I'm sure you are right about the paint and it is very easy to belisled by varying colour balance i magazine pictures. Certainly, from the before and after pics in FWW, the colours look very different, with the before colour looking very close to that in the pics in Mark's thread about the restoration of his PK.
