A couple of days later I started assembling things and wondered why the motor wouldn't line at all. After a good 15mins I realised I rebuilt the motor backwards.
All done. I had a nightmare with the starter and single phase preventor. Before I took this to bits everything worked fine but something must have happened whilst I was working on it. I took loads of pictures to refer back to. I replaced a couple of wires where the insulation was perished. Anyway would it heck play nice when all put back together. After 4 days of messing with it I gave in and installed a modern starter. I managed to use the original start / stop buttons which is good.
