I cut up an old bread board. No idea what sort of wood it is.
The metalworking vice has magnetic rubber inserts with grooves for holding tubular objects.

I have a length of Crubber (from Classic Hand Tools) to fit to my Record 52 1/2. I'm nearly at the stage of insetting the vice to the bench. What did you use to stick it to the jaws please?

After a few months of use it has perished along the top edges.

I have a few sets of the plastic jaw covers with magnets.
As you say the horizontal and vertical V grooves are very useful for holding bars. They also come in various different grades of plastic, from soft rubbery ones to very hard.
Really useful.
Also have home made slip on aluminium covers for when I need to give something some serious persuasion without damaging the vice :)
