I've finally got round to doing some serious work with my Veritas dovetail saw, and I'm as sick as a very sick person over it  - it actually seems to perform better not only than the lLN but also than my custom-made Wenzloff, and cost less than half the price!
So now I'm keeping a weather eye open for the broadly-hinted-at tenon saw - don't want to miss the chance of one at the introductory price when it finally arrives!

I was struggling to cut dovetails with a cheapish "gentlemans saw" from Sheffield and generated rubbish results ... tried a Veritas saw ... highly impressed ... took one home (£!) and the next trial dovetails were almost acceptable ... maybe it was the practice not the tool ... but very happy with the purchase.

Do I want or need a tenon saw like that? want/need???!!!

Hi -

You should see the small crosscut (16TPI) in the fall (same size as the current dovetail), followed by a fine(r) dovetail saw (20TPI). Last one will be a larger carcass saw... possibly Christmas, but still not sure...

Cheers -

Rob

Oh hell I can hear my wallet being emptied already :(

Although - if there's a FINER dovetail saw, do I buy the current model or wait....and have both.

Good news for sure Rob...but can you please tell us how to set the teeth on a saw that small? I've just reviewed a Thomas Flinn d/t saw for F&C with the same tooth configuration and one of the main criticisms was that there isn't a saw set currently available (at least on this side of the pond) that will do the business on teeth that small. Enlighten us please? - Rob

ACtually, i've been feeling just a tad guilty since I started this thread because I should've said that the Wenzloff saw was specifically designed for workign in more delicate material - drawers for jewellery boxes, etc. - and so is thinner and more finely'set than the others, with more TPI. so it wasn't an entirely fair comparison as this job was in heavier stock.
That doesn't detract, though, from the Veritas which I certainly found easier to use than the L-N which is closer to it in spec.
Picking up the point about the improvement in dovetailing, I think practice is an important part of it - and very littel attention is given to practice technique as an art in itself - but I had a similar experience after buying a mid-range DT saw, almost giving up after first using it, and then tuning it up a-la Charlesworth. I now use that saw as a temporary tenon saw until Rob comes up with the goods  - looking forward to a happy Christmas!

Will that "just" be the present DT resharpened, or will there be other differences.

Certainly, as others have noted, user maintainance of a 20 TPI saw brings "issues".

Will you stock a file capable of doing the sharpening?

Rob Lee, how about making a saw set, although I guess the potential market is not massive.[/b]
