Evening all, I am looking for some information on burr veneers and suppliers, my good lady would like a couple of small coffee tables for the conservatory and as it is all fitted out in oak i fancy having a go with burr veneers for the tops but not sure where or what to buy, any help would be great.

I have bought burrs from someone called Aaron Somebody-or-other and Crispins. Both are in London.

I'd buy from Crispin's again.

Another vote here for crispins who merged with the capital veneer company a few years ago now.

I usually buy by mail order and they are very good at selecting the right veneers for the job. You will usually have to buy a full bundle of veneers which is usually 24 or 32 leaves to get a good price.

If you like the look of it its probably a cost effective way of purchasing. 4 leaves will give you various options of matching the veneer either by book matching or a diamond pattern.

I have just had a look at vale veneers they have a nice site showing the actual veneers that they are selling which is good. You are paying a premium though for the ability to buy a single leaf of veneer as there prices are 2 - 3 times more expensive than buying a full bundle of 24 leaves from a veneer merchant.

True, depends what you want, if you must select the precise leaves then they're good, if you're after a greater volume then there are alternatives as you've said. I've just got one of their exotic veneer packs as I needed a few small pieces of varying types and this was a good way to get them
