I made the vase a couple of weeks back from Oak, the four sides are glued to a rebat in a one inch thick Oak base. The ribbon is laminated Iroko and Pine, not sure if it's Ok using Pine but it was as close to using
a white wood as I could get with what I had! The finish is Wood Silk, I tried Linseed Oil on a test piece of ribbon and the Pine was too yellow, with Wood Silk it pretty much kept it's original colour.
After my mum and our lass saw it they both said the same thing, "Should have made a box", infact my mum asked, "Where's the drawer?" Suppose I'll have to make another one!
The scroll saw is out of action for the moment, having a BIG change around in the shed and getting a little more organised before the new saw arrives.

That is a very nice vase Pete, very professional looking. I love the choice of woods for the bow as it is very striking and the wood silk has done a good job as well.

Hello Geoff and Brain :) Appreciate the comments gentlemen :) I'm quite pleased with how it turned out, my orginal plan was to make the Vase BIG but I wasn't sure if glueing the sides alone would have been enough! I haven't tried making any boxes yet, or anything with a lid, so it'll have to be done! [Trying to think now if I have woods correct, is it Iroko or Sapele I used for the bow!, I still get confused with timber ID]
With a bit of luck I might be able to pick up some different timber in a couple of weeks so I'll see what combinations I come with for the box.

We have a couple of bread boards that are on the way out Brian, they too are very pale and could find a new lease of life, should be fine for laminating.

W O W . . . . Pete that is beautiful. Well done.

I'm definitely gonna make a few of those as soon as the snow goes and I can assemble my new workshop.

I think that is stunning. Did you use the scroll saw to get the ribbon? I assume it's made up of individual elements that are stuck together? Look fantastic.

I really do appreciate all the comments :) they keep a beginner going!

Hello Stu :)

Yes, all the parts of the ribbon are done on the scroll saw and then a bit of help from the bobbin sander. Saying that, the straight flat pieces I cut on the bandsaw.
If you take those pieces away, the ribbon is made up of seven parts. It's quite easy to do to be honest, if you imagine a figure of eight, drill a hole in either centre
cut the inner pieces out on the saw, and then criss cross them, then a single piece fits in to middle. The diaganol pieces are straight lines with a bump in the middle,
and where I've done a "V" cut, you can finish them off to a point or curve them to one side.

I reckon you could make a really big one on the bandsaw as you would a bandsaw box, could look very impressive as a centre piece on a table! Might have to have a go
at that now :)

If you fancy having a go, PM your email address :)

Thanks Martin :) Go on, have a go :D Let the tools fly  The next one I do will have eight loops around the outside with two in the centre, one inside the other criss cross style.
I'll have to wait a couple of weeks though as I've sold the Sealey, being collected today.

You never know Brian :D I do fancy having a go at the Spirals, they look like fun to make :D I reckon they could work with a ribbon/bow as well :)
