I live in a small close and out side is parked a big old van, it stays there for 3 weeks.
I asked the driver if he could park at the top of the road as I have to bring my blind brother to visit me from time to time and the dark colour of the van makes it harder for him to find his way to the gate from my car.
The driver moved the van 3 feet up but muttered about he pays his road tax and can park any where.
The man lives in town and there is only parking for one vehicle his car.
I have tried to explain but he is 6 feet plus.
Any ideas, good or bad would help.

No good ones but plenty of bad ones, how low will you go to rectifying the situation.

I have considered slashing his tyres or super glueing his locks but perhaps not.
He has a garage close by that he stores engineer parts in, I think he may get the parts from France then takes small amounts out in his car.
I did say he was a big bloke did I.

I live in a quite cul-de-sac, at the weekend it's lovely.
Trouble is that I live half a mile from a mainline station and during the week we can't put our cars away because commuters park their cars on every inch of space, believe me I've tried everything, don't resort to violence or abuse, they know where you live, even the police would not remove cars that actually blocked the driveways, apparently they are not allowed to.
We've been promised CPZ by the end of the year, that's only taken three years to organise.

Could be wrong (often am  ) but I think they can move them when they are stopping you getting out of your property, but not if they are stopping you getting in.

I have a dropped drive ( also have a white line too) and was told by the council that if any one parks over the white line, than they can be towed.

If we are are on the drive or not, I have been told that the white line makes a difference and I dont live to far away from the Tottenham football ground

There was a story in our local paper a few years ago about someone who owned a garage in a block of 4 or 5 and someone had parked in front of it. They couldnt even get the door open let alone the car out and the police and council wouldnt tow it becuase it was taxed. It was there for two weeks, it turned out the person who left it there was going on holiday and his mate told him he could park infront of his garage because he doesnt use it and he parked infront of the wrong one.

I'm going to be controversial and say that I think he's right, if he is parked on a road with no markings and no restrictions and is not blocking anyone in or out and is not causing any danger... then I'm afraid, he does pay his road license tax and so does have a right to park there. I sympathise with your problem, but in the law of the land, he has done no wrong.

We are not saying he has done some thing wrong but caretaker is just asking for some common curtsies, which I dont think is to much to ask :)

You have the answer, I have a spare car that is taxed I am getting rid of it soon but the tax last till Jan 08.
I could park this car in front of his garage for months and tell him I could not park outside my house because there is a van in the way.
But I am forgetting he is 6 foot plus, I better not do that.

Why tell him it's yours? If it's taxed then the Police won't tow it, perhaps you could set up a webcam on it to catch him doing something unsavoury to it so you could sort him out that way. You're only using his own argument against him.

I fail to see the relevance of the chaps height, praps I'm just being obtuse but it keeps getting mentioned so it must be important. Currently we have what appears to be an abandoned car parked outside the house. Its taxed 'til the end of the month, it hasn't moved in four weeks. There's nothing that can be done about it until the tax runs out, when I lived in London we had at least one abandoned car (frequently several) down our road in any given week there was nothing that could be done then either if they were taxed. I suspect your position is the same.
Cheers Mike

Say the tax disc sort of fell off or scorched in the sun    until it was unreadable.
Would the Bill be interested then?

Unrelated tip; I needed to remove a stuck on tax disc once - used a hot air gun to remove it.

I would park your spare car where he parks his van.

Size makes no difference, unless you intend to do something, then of course depending on what you intend to do size may make no difference anyway. I never worry about size, only about how far I am prepared to go.

AND. I think you will find this gets out of hand very quickly.

YOU. will end up the loser as legally he has done nothing wrong.

Personally, i think that unless you want to take it too far, you are better parking your other car outside your house and when he has parked for the day, moving your car back into your drive. It's really the best answer.

ME. I would remove one of his fingers for every month he's parked outside my house, then park his van in a quarry. But hey thats just me...

Well I think the man with the dirty old van is logged on to this forum, he has gone, but may be to France to get more bits.
My next door but one has put his car there as my wife's car is outside his, but that is ok as they are brother and sisters.
As to size, part of my job is to throw out drunks, undesirables, and down and outs, out of the place I work and I have been sworn at, spat at, attacked with a blunt tooth brush, so I am a bit careful how I tackle people, if at all.
I must admit I would have liked to slash his tyres but don't tell anyone.
Has anyone else got a favorite hate or is it just me.

Nooooooo.
Never, never ask that question here, don't you know how many grumpy old men read this forum

People who don't say," thank you" when you hold open the door for them, or at any other time come to that.
Local councils who tell you," we've arranged a festival in town for you" as if it's money that's come out of their own pockets
People(the majority) who don't indicate on roundabouts.
Litter louts.
People who e-mail me with questions( the very small minority)and after lengthy replies don't bother to acknowledge.

Shall I go on?

Dom
