hi all, i have a dremel and a box full of 'things' never used.

but released the small spaces may lend themselves to finishing by the dremel, so does anyone do this and any hints/tips?

thanks

I have 2 Dremels and a box of bits. At first I thought it would be the wonder tool for all scroll saw users but for me it did not work out that way. I used the little sanding drums for a while but they were to course and I could never find any fine grit ones. I also used a Dremel in the Dremel router table for a while but as the router bit had a pin instead of a roller it left a nasty mark on the edge of the wood, which was a pig to sand off. Can't remember the last time I used them. I suppose they could be used to make entry holes using the Dremel drill stand not not much reach with that set up.

I use my Dremel every day , I find it is essential for intarsia or segmentation when shaping small pieces and when doing fretwork I use it to drill pilot holes.
Could not be without it!!

To day been making "Bobsy Cars" using up some bits of hardwoods the Dremel has been used to round off sharp edges of the car and wheels and drilling the drivers eyes
Don't know how else I can do this

Never used my dremel either. I drill my holes with a cheapy drill press which I also use with my sanding mops,
and to round off edges I use a very small router bit (Proxxon) mounted in a little makita router on a homemade table.
I found it hard to control the dremel freehand and ended up with very uneven edges.
I did use it once to buff the wax on a special job and it worked really well but still didnt get right into the corners.
Had to finish off with cotton buds.

Oh gawd.
I was in B&Q last week and saw a Dremel 3000 which I thought would be ideal for the odd job that might occasionally need minor sanding after scroll sawing..... so I bought one on the spur of the moment. #-o :(

I wouldn't worry too much. I might not use mine for scroll work, but it still probably gets used more than any other powered tool I own.

I'm sure we would all like to see some of your work John if you could post some. I'm sure I can't be the only one who likes the idea but need some encouragement to actually have a go. Seeing some of your work might kick-start a new facet of scrolling?

Although I haven't used mine much I'm sure they are very useful. I haven't used them in scrolling but they are good for getting into tight spaces and rounding over things etc, etc

Im not too bothered if I don't find much use for it, it was only £40, but might use it one day.
I've got plenty of other toys to play with: router + table, pillar drill, bench belt & disc sander etc. etc. :)

I don't keep many photos but here is me trying out a stand for craft fairs and some stuff done this past week the little cars are for crèches and great granddaughters group as you can see most of the stuff is from free patters from Steve Goods site. The intarsia and segmentation are from free pattern e-books off the internet

Thanks
John
