Hello all,

I have been woodturning for about 2 years, I upgraded to a Union Graduate lathe about 6 months ago from a benchtop mounted lathe.

I have bought these two covers for the headstock threads, however the screw with a knurled handle is missing from both of them. I have find that a length of threaded bar 1/4" UNC appears to fit through the hole in the covers and threads into the headstock casting. However I do not see how the screw was prevented from falling out of the cover. Any ideas how this was done originally?

I'm missing my cover too, but when I get round to making it all fit I was just going to put a flexible washer on the thread to stop it pulling back through the cover casting.

I have 4 of them and they all have a screw 52mm long under the knurled head
but the shaft is relieved to 5mm dia after the last/first 15mm of 1/4 whitworth
so the screw screws through the threaded section in the cover then spins freely
theres a section of 1/4 whitworth thread in the middle of the cover about 15mm in from the mating surface making the screw captive

Thanks Ian, it looks like someone has drilled through mine and removed the thread from the cap, so I can't set it up the original way any more.

I might try to hacksaw the thread very slightly to create a ring and attach a circlip of some kind. Hopefully this will stop the clip from unthreading with use.

Another idea would be to swap the screws out altogether and use some strong magnets, might make using the covers alot easier! :D
