Hi Folks
With the Axminster show cancelled this year the prospect of meeting lots of other forum members seems to be a bit slim. Personally, I really look forward to meeting up with you lot almost as much as sniffing out bargain tools. So, an idea.
The Yandles show is on the 8 and 9th of September. It's fairly popular and I know a lot of you come down this way for the show. I am proposing an open day at my workshop in Poole, Dorset where members could meet up, have a natter, a cup of tea and some food and have a play with some tools. Maybe Saturday?
Members could pop by on the way or way home, or we could arrange suitable times to meet up. It would be a good opertunity to have a good chat away from the crowds and with my bench and machinery available for a play, demonstrations, whatever. If there are tools that members would like to try out that are not available in local shops we could arrange for members to fetch them along so everyone could have a try, etc.

So what I need from you good folks is this-

Are you interested?
When would be a good day, time, etc.
Any other ideas?

Let me know what you think (or if this is a silly idea  )
Cheers

Its a great idea - although I'm not sure I can make it - I think we are on hols.

BTW I just noticed the sticky as I glanced up the page - doesn't really stand out - maybe make it a thread and then convert it later?

Cheers

Tim

Always ready for an excuse for a visit to the south coast.
Normally go to Yandles on first day (Fri) on wood bargain hunt.

Will explore accommodation for a few days in the area to see if we can make it.

Tim-sorted! Be nice if you could make it. Pooleis lovely that time of year
Chas-I can help looking for accomodation if you get stuck :D
Cheers

Thanks Philly, may need at least Local tourist contact details.

Will try to sort it when we get back to UK. Will PM if we need help.

Philly - excellent idea, would love to meet other members of the forum, but on annual hols out of the country, however Poole not too far away from Salisbury. Another time maybe? - Rob

Why don't you folks all come to my house? We can meet there, you can give me some ideas on organizing my shop. If there's any interest, I'll do a live SketchUp demo and maybe we could go for a sail. :D

I'll put some brats and burgers on the grill. It'll be a great time.

:D

Fine Idea, I'm bereft of anything sensible to say at the moment other than see you there. You realise of course that you'll be swamped with bodies.

Hope not Dave :) Just ones that won't leave Phillys toys alone. "Come in for your tea"! "Awww mum not yet" sort of thing.
IF enough of us were to get into your neck of the woods simultaneously, suspect you might have to watch for the invasion hordes as well.
Cheers Mike

If you check the forum rules you'll see that anyone who is a Sketchup guru is automatically banned from holding meetings at their house :^o
Mike
Excellent-I'll get the metal detector security scanners fitted at the doorways then?
Rob
You bet-or we could meet at Pennyfarthing Tools? :D
Cheers

Philly, I would be pleased to accept an invitation, unfortunately for The show I do not myself anticipate spending owing to a vacation coming up shortly thereafter.

And I will leave my blade at home :)

Philly's idea is great but why won't other members open their workshops also that weekend considering the distribution of members throughout the county. May be the moderators could organise it???

Might negate the "all meeting up" idea though. "Tom? Ooo, you just missed him - he's off to ****'s now" "Hello ****, where's Tom?" "Just this minute left for Harry's"...

I'm in, subject to logistics. Better yell in good time if there's anything I should bring along - tools, reference books, clotted cream... :)

Cheers, Alf

Philly,

If I can get my pass stamped by SWMBO, I would love to join in the get together. You would need to get a big mop and bucket though, to clean up all the drool from your workshop floor.
