(1) What connections should I use to connect 240v UK single phase L & N, (Earth is even easy for me) to the motor with pics attached.
(2) Also: what starter and run capacitors should I order and fit.
BTW the 2 x red motor wires have good wires but do have cracked insulation...I will patch them during this repair.
Sorry that the pics are not in very sensible order.

Hi..just a bump to try and attract some attention; where should I attach 240v single phase live & neutral to the motor (pics)

There is not enough information given to make any suggestions.

A good strategy would be to go to the Internet Archive, download and read the two Workshop Practice Series books by Jim Cox, identify all connections on the motor and post your findings. Alternatively, you can purchase the books from Tee Publishing.

Capacitors. I’m assuming those came out of the capacitor housings.
Are they know failed?
If not try them
Values are on them:
15uf 440v
160uf to 200uf at nominal 240v
So the last one anywhere you can find in that range and either 240v or higher

Connections….I think there is one of those motors in the shed. I can look later.

Ok. At your own risk!

I have just done a bench test. My motor is slightly different with only a start capacitor. Connections are similar to yours. I connected it up using A1 and A2 and it runs fine. Judging by the background sleeving I may have live and neutral reversed.

First, check there isn’t a wiring diagram under the connection cover.

You might have to start from scratch, using the diagram below as a guide.

I would separate all the wires (check for connections under the terminal plate), and use a multimeter to identify the main and start windings, and the switch connection.

If in doubt, just post the resistance between every combination of wires and we should be able to do it for you.

Thank you for your reply...I thought with the pics I had supplied enough info.
I will do as you say and go to Jim Cox etc
