  hmmmmm wood fairies !!!!!!!!!!!

as the creator it is my wright to also to choose when to uncreate it, it wont be the first and defo wont be the last to get cut up. i also belive its good pratice every now and then to cut a hollow form in half and have a look at the twall thickness- it normally isnt what you thought it would be.

Very nice forms George. I also prefer the one on the right but see nothing wrong with the other one.

When you say that you drill the pith out of the base and fill it later what do you do if the opening is no longer circular? I know yew doesn't move much but even the smallest amount would cause a problem.

Sorry to disagree cornucopia or can i call you george :)
I like the left one, not that i disapprove of the right vase. I think it is the shape that i like better than the smaller one. As for quality there is no difference. Looking good.

Don,t bin it that would be a shame. Post it!!!!!!!

what i do is drill out the pith with an 8mm bit then once dry drill it again with a 10mm bit to make it easier to plug.

as i have said before i value all opinions but mine is the only one that matters on my work- and the taller vase is not a good form in my opinion.

What makes it a bad form George :?:

hi paul- for me its all about the profile of the curve and the proportions.

this piece; from top to bottom- from the rim to mid neck is o.k-from mid neck to the widest point is poor, i prefer it to be flatter here. from the widest point to 3/4 of the way down is good a nice curve no facets from 3/4 to the base is poor, the curvature of the main form does not flow through and the base is not right. i prefer the base on the other form where it tucks under but i struggle to do this sort of base on taller vase forms.

it may seem odd to some people to create a form to then deystroy it but for me looking at this piece is not pleaseing and i know i can do better so i try again and chalk this one up as many many others before it as pratice.

Now you have pointed it out George i can see what you mean.
But i would still have been happy with it :D
George how do you finish the bottom outers of your vase type pieces.
How are they held.Do you reverse them :?: :?:

hi paul, i sometimes reverse them if the piece is strong enough for my heavy handed ness and the base is larger than 2" but genrally i part them off and sand them of the lathe.
