I've turned yew many times in the past. I made many falconry blocks, some quite unique, using a Tyme 750 lathe and Trend router lathe - both of which I still have. I also turned boals from it although limited in diameter. Wore appropriate PPE such as face mask and shield with dust extraction. Finished with different varnishes and Tung Oil etc. Although aware of the 'toxic' issues back then I'm still here in reasonable health for a 72 year old.
I worked for a hardwood timber company from 1986 until 1992 and had access to it in some quantity for turning or furniture. I still have quite a few boards up to 4" thickness and WILL be back to using it when other priorities take a back seat.
