A number of years ago I saw some American chappies doing some demonstrations at Cressing Temple. They were converting logs to beams and had some very robust looking trousers on. Being so inclined, I stored this away in my mind and recently found they could be found over here and bought some;

After a month or so they are doing very well. Very tough and very warm, plus, due to the double knees and lining you can kneel on concrete for short times without knee pads. (well, I can). Being cotton, they don't shrug off stuff like teflon coated polyester, but i'm sure I can live with that. They don't seem to rip when snagged with a sharp saw either. So far I'm very impressed and they're the best work trousers I've ever bought. The price is also relatively reasonable.
The only downside I can see is that they'll probably weigh a ton when wet, they're not particularly light when dry!
