A review on Screwfix says user had to replace his after four years of near daily use. Mines isn't half that age nor used anywhere near as frequently yet it packed up completely yesterday for the second time. First time was within thirty days of purchase and the armature needed replacing. Can't be certain but I'm guessing it's the same fault again. Am I unlucky or is this a known issue?

The Tritonisters will come to get you soon, whenever a negative comment is made about Triton routers all h**l breaks loose on here, personally I found the router at the very best just adequate, sold it on in the end.

Okay gentlemen, I don't want to stir up past rows, I'm looking for some constructive comments like am I expecting too much or am I just unlucky having one die twice in under two years?

There's a difference between negative comments versus incorrect ones Mike...

As I recall, you were giving negative feedback on the triton router which several members disputed...

Just because my experience's with the Triton differed from others does not make my observations incorrect

To have the router die on you twice in under two years is a good indication of quality control, it was the bearings on mine that I had to replace within a very short time of using it, if the bearings get excessively worn then the Armature will suffer, I have two Hitachi, two Draper Expert and a Bosch and have never had to do anything to them, the Bosch is over twenty years old.

Don't use mine every day but has been good as gold for around 10 years now in a permanent table setting. It has run hard and for several hours per day on many occasions, I would have not hesitation recommending it.

My first Triton router TRA001 lasted 12 years before any problems came up and it had a lot of use over the years on those boxes. Still running at 14 years but collet was getting suspect imo.

Didn't Triton go bust a few years back?

Might explain the difference in quality.
Some of us having machines from the "old triton" days and others the newer one.
We all know what happens when the bean counters take over.

We do indeed!

On another note, I get on so much better with my tablesaw now since you and others on here gave some useful pointers. I do find it kicks dust eveywhere and builds up quite a lot inside - any tips for that?

I think you're right. They originated in Australia but I see they are now made (like nearly everything) in Asia.

Triton have gone to the wall three or four times since originating in Australia, I think at one time the where owned by GEC, but now as you say like all things in Asia, I wonder who will own them next?

Mike

Are they currently as bust as my router? The email address that confirmed warranty when the router was new is no longer recognised, there are no contact details on their website (no phone, no address) beyond aan online enquiry form and there's no response to that. The service section directs to a Triton Approved Service Agent who insist on referring me back to Triton! Say what you like about Americans but they do know how to deliver decent customer service, I wouldn't be having this much of a runaround if it was Incra, Kreg or Woodpecker!
