Thinking about buying one from Axminster... Has anyone had a bad experience as there are only 2 reviews on the Axi site.

Cheers

Good piece of kit, apart from the continual buzzing in your head from the motor  so I sold mine to another forum member - Rob

Thanks Woodbloke.... As long as it does the job. Does it come with a lightsaber?

Only if you want to change from the 'Flat earthers' and do battle with the 'Dark Side'...for that read 'spiny'
Seriously, does the job very well but I couldn't get on with the noise from the motor - Rob

Russ, be aware that the new Trend is rather heavy if worn for long periods, I found it to be too unwieldly for my liking, I do have one of the old models which I now keep by my saws & get on with with no problems but could not get on with the new one at my lathe.

Hi Russ

I suffer from chest problems and have to use one when doing anything that generates dust, and I have found the Airshield to be very good. It keeps all the dust out and when hot the cool air across your face is very pleasant.

I havent had any major problems with comfort even when wearing for prolonged periods of time.

Thanks for all the feedback.

Finding the workshop extremely stuffy due to the heat and the dust makes me want to stop. Hopefully the mask will make it more bearable.

Cheers

Russ

Have you considered the Powercap? I've been thinking about that recently. I'd like to try it on but I don't think they go to any of the shows. Might have to drive up to the Toolpost.

Tom

I think that Screwfix stock it now - you can order it from them and send it back if you're not happy.

I wouldn't be without mine.

As for the noise & weight, it doesn't bother me and in fact I sometimes forget I'm wearing it. The one I have is the older type, I haven't tried the new one which is a bit heavier.

Remember, when using it not to take it off as soon as you've finished the cut because the dust is still in the air for a while afterwards.

regards

Brian

I've got both now and although the newer one is heavier i have now got used to it,just like how i thought the first one was heavy but got used to that. :D
D&M are doing a good deal.

You would have thought in this day and age of H & S the market and specification on this equipment would be excellent.
Hardly any suppliers and problems seem to abound.
I myself have the Triton (australian) but that only has around a 3 hour battery life, but othewise very satisfactory, ear protection as well.

I have one of the older version. Really good, no problems. Weight etc is not an issue and as a specs wearer I can say it is no problem at all.

Snags if any, ear defenders don't sit that well around it, least mine don't. I don't like in ear ones. Also it's a bit of a flaff taking the battery out to recharge it but not a huge issue, just could be designed a bit easier!

I have the older one. It is cumbersome - if you hinge the visor up and turn suddenly in a cramped workshop you can really hurt your neck!
But wouldn't be without it - easy to take on and off, I find it comfortable to wear - I don't really notice the buzzing but then I tend to be using it with far noisier power tools!
The build quality isn't brilliant - I've had lots of bits break. But replacement parts are fairly easy to get hold of from Trend.
If the newer one fixes some of the problems with the older one I'd go for it if you can.
Cheers

I have one of the older one's it has two batteries which will give 8 hours of operating use. (The motor noise has never bothered me)
As far as the weight is concerned I have found that half the time it's resting on the top of my chest (I've a funny shape I suppose)
so it doesn't feel very heavy at all.
It does keep your face cool and it does stop the dust so I am for it.

Thanks guys..

Arrived last night and fits nicely; hopefully it should make working in this 38 degree heat more comfortable.

I've obviously been very bad in this life, as that's my idea of heaven!

I got my Powercap from Screwfix. They let me try it on in the shop.
It too makes a buzzing sound, but there's not really a way round that other than to mount the motor/fan away from the head like one of the belt mounted ones.
The only real problem I've had with it is catching the cable from the belt mounted power pack. I now run the cable under a layer of whatever clothing I'm wearing. This catching eventually caused a problem with the cable that made the motor to cut out sometimes when the cable moved. It was out of warranty (possibly not covered anyway) but JSP were happy to send me a new cable for me to solder in place - no problems since.
