Thanks for that. Using a coping saw hadn't even occurred to me, although in my defense I don't even own one yet so I'd like to think I would have had the gumption to figure it out eventually!
I imagine a concertina-d cake stand column would be fairly do-able, but as I'm not a fan of cake I'd probably opt for the cheeseboard. Or perhaps a cheese stand?
