Tool chest

I have just acquired this very old canteen of cutlery box, made from solid oak. I was struggling to think of a way to use it, until today. I was looking at some tool chests online and suddenly thought why not make the cutlery box into a tool chest. Might take a fair bit of work, but its a lovely big old box and should look great when finished. Will post more as the project goes along.

One bit of advice needed, what do you guys think would be better just the interior varnished or oiled wood or green felt ??????
