Hello, does anyone know anything about a mortiser branded Todd of Burnley. The machine belongs to my father and he has owned it since the early 80's, he reconditioned it and had it converted by an engerneering company in southport to work on single phase domestic electricity with the option to change back to 3 phase if ever needed. The machine is in full working order as I believe it was made to last being so robust and heavy duty. It has 2 wheels to move the clamp area left and right and in and out, from what I know later models of similar machines only have 1 wheel.

I have searched on google to find any information about this machine but have not had much success. This is how I have arrived here at your forum.

It has the brand Todd of Burnley on it but I believe from searching the forum I found a thread about a similar topic, a user called Scrit replied to a question about a mortiser that had a cast iron base, he said that Todd of Burnley rebranded machines under their name but actually wasnt manufactured by them.
He also posted some pictures of mortisers from a 1960's catalogue which leads me to believe the mortiser my father has is much older.

My main question is how old could this machine be and who could have manufactured it?

Here are some photos I have taken to help, the machine is now blue but I think it was originally pale green.

Doesn't look a million miles from a Wadkin-Bursgreen DM mortiser, different casting for the larger adjustment handwheel; could be an earlier relative from either Wadkin or Bursgreen.

If it is, they're a really nice machine-tool to use, very precise when set up well.

Thanks for the reply, it gives me a new avenue to go down in search of info. Have you and idea what era we are looking at?

I'm sure Todd's of Burnley was a blade sharpening company which went bust a few years ago, if thats any help
