I'm just looking for recommendations for an m33 chuck that fits on a hegner. My old nova is worn out in that the toothed chuck is so worn it only just engages. Could this be fixed even. I've no idea what's available and what's good good value etc. The nova has been OK but changing jaws is a total pain. The tooth arrangement is not as good as a square and I suspect the accuracy isn't what it could be! It still works fine...

Much depends on budget and the work you intend to do.
From personal experience some of the best chucks on the market are the Axminster series of chucks. They also have the largest range of accessory Jaws of any make. They aren’t the cheapest though.
For good quality and value for money with good backup if needed, then Record Power offer some good choices, SC4 and SC3 for example.
Probably the poorest quality I have is a Supernova 2. It’s not bad considering how much I paid for it - under £100 including VAT, but I wouldn’t buy another.

Once again, only my personal choice, but after buying a chuck that had poor runout due to using a threaded adapter, I now only buy direct threaded chucks. Having said that, I’m sure the recently introduced Axminster chucks with interchangeable back plates are fine. Similarly the Versachuck system should be ok.

The New Record Power Victory Chuck looks pretty nice and like the Axminster is made in the UK I believe?

Good luck with whatever you choose.

Blimey those prices seem outrageous to me. I can see the axminster sk is a nice chuck but I'd be up at well over £500 for a rough equivalent of my current capacity. I think I'll soldier on with my novachuck. I notice lathes are topping out at nearly £10k!
I'll look at the record victory ones.

The record victory sounds pretty good for my wants. M33 direct, few accessories, fit nova jaws, complete with a modular 50mm jawset, modular in that its got jaws that add on rather than unscrew/screw on. Not released until March though!!

The SC3 is on special offer at the moment £109 inc delivery and includes wood screw, standard Jaws, faceplate ring and chuck key.

Record offer officially expires 28/2/25 but was told whilst they hold stock of the lot on offer incl sc3/sc4 they’ll sell. I snagged an SC4 well worth the extra and the custom jaws on the new Victory chick are interchangeable with the SC4 and very happy with it so far.
SC4 also has additional bowl mounting plate. The SC4 will take the larger record remounting attachment - that’s also on offer.
I use Yandles and D&M tools. D&M next day free delivery over £100.
Now if only that mortiser was on offer throwing in the three chisels 😂

I see the new victory chuck is available as 33x3.5 and 33x3.5 ASR

What does ASR mean?

I’m planning an upgrade of my lathe at some point and will want one with a reverse function, is it something to do with this?

An advantage I can see with this chuck would be I could use my current jaws (SC3).

Don’t quote me but I think some of the Axminster ASR chucks also have one or more threaded holes for a locking screw so it can be used in reverse on a non ASR lathe?
