I was just looking at and drooling over the Festool Domino video on YouTube.

I didn't realise that SWIMBO was looking over my shoulder.

She frightened me out of my skin when she said.

'That looks clever!'

'Oh it is dear; really it is.' I said.

'If you had one of those, you would finish my kitchen a lot quicker.'

'Oh Yes dear,' I said, 'a lot quicker.'

'Then I'll see what Santa has to say!' she said.

Before she could change her mind...

I woke up, with the YouTube screen staring at me.'

So, I have decided I'll have to treat myself.

Can anyone tell me if the adjustable fence comes with it or is it an extra... Or maybe it depends on where you shop?

Cheers

John

LOL. No idea about the answer to the question but I like the dream.
Did it have a lot of other festool stuff in it as well ?

You get the Additional stop ZA-DF 500 (ref 495666) but not the cross stop QA-DF 500 (493488) or the Trim stop LA DF500 (493487). The last one is the most useful of the two latter, especially if you make face frames. I don't have the cross stop. (They also do a handrail fence, something else I haven't got and don't really need).
You probably already realise, but you'll need a vacuum cleaner or some other sort of extractor as it will block up quickly without, and it will leave the mortice clogged with sawdust as well. It's also worth getting the box with all the different size dominos and the box of cutters, as it's the cheapest way of buying them. Currently £155.90 ex vat, but you should be able to negotiate a discount off that (I'm told by my local dealer that they are allowed to offer up to 20% off accessories).

This is what we like to see John...a complete lack of Domino Ditherizationing and a straight forward launch down the 'Slope'

All we need now is for Ed to make up his mind  - Rob

I shall have to learn how to 'knock' then?

The dream didn't have any other Festool stuff in it, but then I have a full compliment of Elu machines!

Regards
John :D

Well you were both right John , it is clever and yes 'dear' with it . Cheers !

Dont forget, they have managed without Domino for the past 2000 years, and they made better stuff 200 years ago.

Good point DW, "they" made better stuff 200 years ago, didn't they.

I'm going to take my domino back, thanks for showing me the light.

I think tradesmen most probably get their monies worth from such a tool, but my hobby doesnt need that many tenons or anticipated for my last few years in the workshop.

Well they certainly made better stuff than I do! But then they had, (and used up), all the best timber!

I see what you are getting at with regard to how many M&T joints you are likely to cut from now until then. You have a good point. However, I am at the short end too so with what time I have left, a Domino means I'll be able to make more M&Ts faster. Maybe.

The main reason though is my kitchen-build. I can't justify paying inflated prices to have it 're-modelled' by a pro firm so I have to do it myself. I can factor in the cost of the Domino, and still do it less expensively. Also I will be able to make face-frames and doors, much quicker and easier. I suppose I could even make drawers using through-dominos. (Better looking than the dowel joint I saw in a recent copy of Fine Woodworking!)

So I am going to get a Domino. I earned a little luxury in life, and I ain't not giving up woodworking to get it! And if in the end, If I don't get much use from it, then my Son will!

No 'they' didn't...you're on very thin ice here DW with a sweeping statement like that. The best work then was no better than the finest work produced today (different, but no better) whilst a lot of the hum drum everyday stuff that litters antique shops is of variable quality...some of it awful (again, like a lot of todays stuff, Ikea to name one firm turning out garbage most of the time) - Rob

Plus a lot of the really awful stuff simply hasn't survived. Thankfully.
"They" produced some great stuff and some rubbish, as do "We".

Oh I dunno Steve. You should see some of the stuff I inherited. How it survived I dunno, but it did! Until I decided it was recycle time.
