Threaded inserts

I've got to make a number of drawer pulls/cupboard door handles and think the threaded inserts are a better way of fixing than using standard wood screws.

Unfortunately the world of google and threaded inserts left me confused.

Anyone have a regular supplier/type they use and can recommend?

screwfix were the cheapest that I could find when I looked, or ebay if you are not local to a branch.

I had to import some 1/4" stuff from Lee Valley for making photographic supports;
even state of the art digital cameras still have 1/4" (or, rarely, 3/8") Whitworth threads.

I wouldn't normally use them either but this is high use bits of kit and because over the life time of the furniture I feel that woodscrews will eventually pull out/loosen.

Not convinced that the inserts are that much more secure than plain woodscrews - our airing cupboard door know pulled off and it was only after trying various ways to fix it, decided a plain woodscrew and rawlplug worked just as well.

Probably best. Once wood screws start to work loose it's only a matter of time before your knob drops off! :shock: :lol:
