Hi!

Forum Newbie here. I've been scrolling for about a year or so, making the odd portrait, jigsaw etc etc.

For Xmas, I got a couple of books on making boxes on the scroll saw and I wish to have a go at this.

However, I'm wondering what you all might consider to be the best way of getting thin stock (for bases and lids etc).

My initial thoughts were to use bowl blanks and take 1/4" cuts to make the thin boards needed for lids and bases, using the remainder for the body of the box. For this I would need a Bandsaw with about a 6" cutting depth.

The other idea was to buy the thinnest stock and use a thicknesser to take it down to what I need, glueing up the boards to get the widths.

Just wondered what people thought about this, or if anyone had any alternate options.

Thanks in advance!

Dave

Hi dave
i think you probably right, cut bowl blanks up and make them the right thickness. I do this with the names and asstd bits i cut out, although i do have a planer/ thicknesser to use should i need it.
