I have been watching a 5 month old, ex demo Festool MFT on Ebay this week.

A couple of days ago it was at £106 + £15 postage no one had bid for a few days so I thought good could get a cheap MFT, then today it finished at, wait for it £295 + £15 £310 for a used MFT

Someone is selling new ones for £355 buy it now so why would anyone in their right mind pay that for a used one BONKERS  .

Also saw a 12 tooth blade for the TS55 going for nearly £10 more than you can get one new from a shop

Has anyone else spotted a nutter ?

They are all over that site, I once sold a bench drill for £25 more than the new price :D bit daft really when the new price of the drill was less than £40   Keep 'em coming I say 8)

I know a bloke who runs a computer components shop. He reckons he has a guy who sells stuff on eBay, and THEN comes in to buy it, pack it up and send it off. Reckons he does a tidy business.

I once bid on a chrome tailpipe for my car on e-bay. I went as far as £10 which I thought was enough for a second hand one.........it went for £24! I took a trip down to the local dealer who sold me one brand new for...wait for it..................£12! Now that is stupid!

I generally have the same problem, Philly.

Although, I did once, somehow, manage to sell a £25 biscuit jointer for £35 (plus £10 postage!)! :D

It's not just on Ebay.

A few years ago I went to a liquidation auction wanting some Dexion steel racking. Before I went I phoned a dealer in Bolton for a price on decent second-hand stuff.

At the auction hundreds of bays of racking sold for up to twice the price that the dealer had quoted me!

'Auction fever' seems to grab some people and puts their brains on hold.

Caveot emptor.

I was interested in an axminster aw10bsb2 table saw, on Ebay. The auction finishes in approx 50 mins and the price is already £560. This is a second hand one. Retail price with delivery-- (a couple of weeks ago) £599 from Axminster. BONKERS!!!

I dont know if he's still on but a while ago, someone was selling those aluminium tablesaw tapering jigs you get from Axminster for £13 and getting £16- £20 for them on ebay. Everytime he sold one, there was another one straight on. I felt like opening the front door and shouting as loud as I could, "your paying more than they sell for you fools"!

The main problem seems to be that people do not know what something is worth. So they bid what they are willing to pay.

If you think a jig is worth £30 because you have never seen the Axminster web site and you pay £20 and feel that you have a great deal.

I always have a good surf around before buying stuff on ebay so that I have a good idea of what it is worth second hand and new. I also only ever put one bid in - for the maximum amount I am willing to pay and then I leave it until the end of the auction so I do not get carried away with "just one more bid"...

  It's all about ego's, have you not heard the ebay song
"i'm highest bidder" :(
I once bought something the seller was selling for £38 (lot's of them)
It started at £36 so i put highest bid of £38 nothing to lose and i was out bid
£38-50  . The person wanted to win that auction simple as that.

That Axminster AW10BSB2 Table saw eventually fetched £640. I've got some new £10 notes for sale at £20. Any takers before I put them on Ebay

I have just managed to get 10 special limited edition INVISIBLE Festool routers I think I will put them on Ebay
