Excellent video - nice to see some old skills and trades surviving in Sheffield

makes me really want a Clifton plane now, they look so well made!

I also didn't realise pax saws were made by Thomas Flinn & Co until watching the video, thanks for sharing.

Great stuff.
I'm interested that you say "the late" - do you know anything more about him?

I only know his videos - this one, "The Putter" showing the work of the putter togetherer is magnificent:

Agreed!

Sounds like he was a good bloke as well as a talented photographer.

Yes, I was just getting to know Shaun, and had just engaged in a dialogue about tacit knowledge as we are both filmmakers shared a common interesting in industry and hand skills.

He was working on numerous projects, one of them was called a year of Making Sheffield 2016 and also Storying Sheffield.

He was taken ill early this year with liver failure, and spent many months in hospital waiting for a liver transplant.

Unfortunately, he caught an infection and had to have his leg amputated. As you can imagine a major operation for someone who is already quite ill. Shaun passed away on 15 September this year.

Shaun Bloodworth has left an amazing legacy to the everyday person with his films, and given a voice in history to the people who sometimes feel they don’t have a voice or that their history is not important. Of course, we all know better.

My two favourite Shaun Bloodworth film are The putter and Barry Car’t arf weld

The putter turned the fortunes of the scissor making company Ernest and Wright and Son Ltd, so well worth a watch.

Enjoy

thank you for sharing. Strange coincidence but we were telling an apprentice today that if he really wanted to get something ultra special then to get a clifton block plane rather than a lie neilson one
