A dog is one of the most important things to have in a workshop...
They do the cleaning and lubricating:
...and all that sort of stuff but you have to go through the various machine parts three or for times before they get the point...
Interruptions from other team members are discouraged..usually quite simply with a look...
....and you should always ensure they can see and learn by watching what you do....
Their use as guard dogs cannot be overestimated....
...particularly when cleaning outside.
An apprentice dog is always keen to learn...
...but care should be taken at puppy stage in getting him to understand the difference between "scrap" and "vital bits of wood which took ages to make"!!
Care should be taken when training on machine tools though...
This does take a little bit longer so make sure they get to have a go themselves.
You can eventually move on to other more complex training tasks...such as holding ladders...
...and other advanced techniques.
Green wood training is vital in wood preparation...
....but this technique does tend to take advantage of only a small selection of breeds...the ones who destroy couches when young are the best...mobile phones...remote controls...shoes...kitchen floors...that sort of breed!
But most of all...he/she will be your best friend...and someone to show your work to when nobody else takes a remote bit of interest! :mrgreen:
