Yes Roger noted and acted upon. We are seeing a solicitor tomorrow afternoon so should know a little more about how we stand in this situation. Ironballs, i have a feeling that is what they are up to, hoping we take their word for it and not investigating fiurther.

Good luck, Mailee - make sure that he/she is an employment specialist as employment law is tricky.

Seconded

Thirded, but I'm sure Mailee's union have helped to ensure that he's appropriately skilled (I'm hoping/assuming that they are supporting you here, and paying back their dues!).

It's not actually that tricky (having studied it academically way back), but it is very specialised - lots of legislation and its own abundance of case law.

Mailee - Hope things work out well for you. BTW what is a 'zero hours' contract, doesn't make sense to me

Zero hours Tony means just that. If the work dries up we can be stood down without pay until it picks up again. Nothing like a retianer to keep us employed, can't sign on the dole, can't take other work, just sit at home and wait for the phone to ring with more work! I wouldn't mind if they made us contractors, at least we would get contractors rates for it.
