Today I've been P/T-ing prepping some oak for my mate Julian at the Community Workshop. Just a bit. But I do try to be a good boy and wear eye protection. That's not just to be a good boy, my eyes used to belong to two other people, so I really do want to protect them. I don't want to have to go through all that again.

Anyway, I have these safety glasses that are also reading glasses. 1.5D. Just a nice little bit of help. I have them on a cord round my neck so there is no excuse for not having them to hand.

So there I was, all set up to plane, ready to switch on, so I reached for my glasses and... promptly poked myself in the eye with the arm. It %^&*()*&^% hurt!

Plonker.

Oh well, its the thought that counts.

Just out of interest Steve did you not have your safety glasses on to protect from the arm of your actual safety glasses!

Sue the manufacturers for not supplying a written warning over poking yourself in the eye with their product!

Things like the warning on superglue that says do not put it into your eyes always make me think that for them to have to put that there someone must have tired it and either complained or sued.

What a crazy world we live in.

Has anyone noticed the disclaimer on rear view mirrors on American cars? It does make you wonder how stupid some people can be! no not you Steve.

I've seen warnings on packets of peanuts saying 'WARNING - this packet may contain nuts'.

John

Yep the irons (as in ironing) have a "this item get's hot" warning on them in the US

I did the same thing back in July when I was putting on my glasses. Poked myself right in the centre of the eye with the steel frame. Went to get it checked out, fortunately all was fine.

But I had had enough of being so short-sighted for so long. That night I booked an appointment and three days later I had laser corrective surgery. Best decision ever. Now I have perfect vision, no messing with contact lenses, glasses, etc. It wasn't cheap but it was well worth it.

.... peanuts aren't nuts.

You are quite correct Roger - I should have said 'nuts' rather than 'peanuts'.

My lad sent me some pictures of a job he was doing over in Kabul last year. He was working on some comms and LAN stuff and I asked him where his glasses, boots, hard hat etc gear was ? don't HSE say anything ?

Health and safety stuff ? he says ? oh no we have a 9mm Sig Sauer to sort that .

If you mean the thing about objects in mirror seeming closer, I always wonder why they fail to mention that the objects are also in the other direction.

Oh nuts!
Full of beans then Roger!

... they're actually actually legumes same as beans or peas but they grow in underground pod, hence their other name, groundnut. :)

Legumes... That's the word Roger! I just couldn't bring it to mind...

And me who can remember the groundnut-scheme in the fifties, that was an experiment to make butter from the oils. Honest! 8)

So what is peanut butter made from then?????

(And to go back a bit further, in the early 60s, I worked with a guy who'd been an advisor to the groundnut scheme - in the sense that he basically advised against it, but Govt didn't want to listen)

I think peanut butter was the goo that resulted from all the experiments.

For some reason lots of people seemed to like it, especially with jelly/jam spread over it.
The very thought makes my stomach heave TBH!
