It's back for a new series, Sunday BBC1, 8.00pm...advise 'be there' - Rob

Edit - sorry, put this in the wrong forum, please move to General. BBC2 as well  - Rob

Oh, I see, 'Top Gear'. I thought it would be a woodworking programme of some sort.

It's BBC2.

I won't be holding my breath - bunch of tossers in my opinion!

I no it's very popular, but it's not my cup of tea.
Neither is F1, i just find it boring. :)

I thought you were on about tongue and groove, and just missed out the "&".....

Best programme on the box........now that Norm has left us! Will he ever be back? :(

I love TG - their challenges and races are some of the most riveting and well filmed pieces on the BBC, and one of the last few overtly non 'PC' programmes still being aired on telly, more power to their elbow!

Smudger, why is it that you think they are 'tossers'?

Clarkson, mostly. He reminds me of a kid trying to shock his parents by being outrageous, but not really meaning it. Just protesting against everything isn't entertaining any more. Other things (such as Have I Got News for You and QI) show that there is a much better side to him. Richard Hammond is a clever bloke who pretends he isn't and the other one - well, I wouldn't like to be alone in a lift with him. The whole thing is laddish, boorish and cheap. I don't like it!

James May the classically trained Harpsichordist? another intelligent chap. At least the lift music would be of superior quality.
Cheers Mike

I think James May is a very underrated component of TG, I think it was the addition of him to the show that has propelled it to it's current popularity. His recent work has also been rather good - the wine stuff with 'oz' the 20th century inventions and the book that followed it, all very good.

He's also a trained pilot, very talented fellow.

I like TG come to that any motoring prog, F1 my favorite. I remember when Clarkson came to Boscombe Down we had to organise him to fly an inverted spin in a T7 Hunter, when he climbed out he collapsed on the ground but I was not quite close enough to see what he had eaten for breakfast. Still it does take some nerve to do that, but I guess he was paid well.

I agree with Smudger that Clarkson is well past his sell by date as a rebel. As a millionaire trying so consciously to be a naughty boy, he's pretty unconvincing, really. I rate James May as a much better writer than Clarkson but again, he overdoes the laddish image.

REgards.
