I have a Ryobi ets1525sc T/S, it's ok, but now I have really got to grips with it I am finding its limitations.

I have a job making up some speaker boxes, and the panels I need to cut are larger than the saw can really manage. I could make up some tables to fit at the sides of the ryobi, or bite the bullet and buy a new saw.

I ended up using the circ saw today, and this is defeating the object entirely. I have considered a rail system, and feel I should like to get the T/S gig working. Any ideas?

I have looked at a couple of charnwood models, a couple of SIP's, and am not sure. I guess i can spend £300, and all I need is a saw that'll cut up to approx 35" panels. Help please.

Cheers then guys,

Neil

how often will you need to cut panels this size ?

what are your table dimensions .. wide , long, and amount of table infront of the blade ?

That TS should be quite serviceable tbh. As said cutting large sheets is best done with a CS and a rail/guide (home made works well).

sorry folks, didn't mean to take your comments for granted but have been in st albans for the week without chance to check in so regularly.

I dunno what has happened to it but the fence seems to have been knocked out of square.

Tusses, the table saw has a couple of extensions that slide out and take the whole thing out to 1110x638, and apparently the sliding mechanism will take up to 350mm. What I would love to do is find a way to fix a bar of some sort to the front of the saw that would accept a fence clamp and thus extend its capabilities. The mitre fence is pretty poor, and I have made a sledge for it already but obviously this will only allow me so much room in front of the blade.

I have looked at the rail package from axminster, and might push the boat out for that, or I may get the hilti wsc265 fixed up with a rail. Expensive though.

What I would really like is a fairly modest T/S, second hand, that'll allow me to rip up to about 30 inches. So, any ideas???

Thanks for your comments folks.

Neil

I bought an old Wadkin AGS 10" and am realy happy with it. It can rip about 25" on the fence.

I just bought myself a Skil Saw and made my own track system to go with it. It works really well . I can cross cut an 8x4 in half ,

I can manage the rest of the cuts easily on the TS.

Unless you are going to be cutting full sheets day in day out then something like this might be worth considering.

tusses

cheers again, but how much did you have to pay for the table saw?
I would love to get something second hand, but it is getting it home that is the problem, all the saws seem to be up north!!!

Anyway, have got the new fence upgrade from axminster and may try to make ky own extension table to fit it on, whaddya think? Maybin mate set it up so I can only cut, say from 20 inches to 35 inches?

Cheers again mate.

neil - a mate of mine has a table saw for sale (two actually) - ones very cheap but on the other hand very primitive and possibly unsafe - the other is a record and is fairly big - nearly new , and in very good nick (i'd take it off him myself but as a turner i dont really need it ) - Hes in buckinghamshire not far off the M40 (hes emigrating in a couple of months hence the sale)

if you're interested in theory pm me and email address or phone number and I'll ask him to get in touch with you with the full SP

BTW he also has a big kity bandsaw up for grabs also
