If I was building a bench to house my little table saw into how high should the worksurface be? I've been trying to figure it out and I originally thought that it would be good if the top of 1 metre but then I thought that it might need to be a little lower... since I do not have a stand for my saw I honestly don't know what a good height is... any advice?

My saw is similar to the one in the link but without the base:

http://www.axminster.co.uk/product.asp? ... =1&jump=44

I've set mine up so that the table saw top is the same height as my bench. I can then use the bench for an out feed table.

I was planning on having the saw at a right angle to the bench and therefore if I build it into a second bench I'd be able to use that as my outfeed table plus have some storage inside which would be nice

I'm 6' thats why I thought a metre high would be good, I think its one of those things that will probably be ideal once its made its just when you stand there holding a tape it looks very big!! (I can't believe I just said that, lol).

I've already given you this link Stig. http://www.woodworkersinstitute.com/page.asp?p=461

In it they recommend.

"To find the best working height for your bench, stand up with your forearms stretched out in front of you, then measure that height from the ground and reduce it by 100mm to give you the optimum finished height. This will be higher than most benches, but should save you from backache."

Thanks, just waiting for my collegue to leave the office before I start measuring otherwise she'll call the men in white coats!!

Although I just looked a little like a T-Rex holding a tape measure I came out with 1.10m so it looks like a 1m top will be fine, a bit of 2" x 4" later and bobs your uncle... I'll post some pictures to post once I've finished the banging and swearing :D

I think your saw will be too high to be safe.

I went and looked at my cabinet saw and with the mobile base I made, it is 35" (889mm) high. Same as my workbench. I am a touch over 6"1" myself (been shrinking :( as I get older).

I also looked at several saws on the web and the ones that give a height were 33 3/4" to 34 1/2" (857mm to 876mm) high. Even with a mobile base they are a far cry from 1 to 1.1 meter.

I checked the industrial straight line edgers that we have at work and their tables are 920mm, it appears that kitchen worktops are the same but I guess 33" or 34" is enough, its just seems to hard to visualise... I'm sure once its finished it'll look and work fine for me. Its easier to chop a bit of the legs than add a bit on!!

Hi Stig,

I'm a little late on this one but for what it's worth I'm 6ft and my bench doubles as the outfeed table for my T/S, all are set at 900mm, the T/S is sat on (and fixed to) wooden blocks of aprox 40mm to lift it up to the height I wanted. I would say that 1000mm is a bit high :?

Hope this helps,

Richard

Me too, I'm about an inch shorter than you and my saw height is 920mm, which I find spot on.
